Facebook has apologised after a bug temporarily unblocked people that users had blocked on the social network.

The bug affected more than 800,000 people and was active between May 29 and June 5, the company said.

Facebook confirmed the issue had now been fixed and those affected were being notified.

Over 800,000 Facebook users have been affected by a bug on both Facebook and Messenger, which meant that blocked users were temporarily unblocked . "We know that the ability to block someone is important — and we’d like to apologise and explain what happened.”

Affected Facebook users will get a notification on the app or website starting Thursday. They'll see a message from Facebook urging users to "Please Review Your Posts" and a link to a list of what they shared on Facebook while the bug was active.

The social network said the bug did not reinstate any friendship connections which had been severed and 83% of people hit by the bug only had only one person unblocked.

“Starting today we are notifying over 800,000 users about a bug in Facebook and Messenger that unblocked some people they had blocked,” Facebook’s chief privacy officer, Erin Egan, said in a blog post.

Facebook disclosed a bug this morning that affected about 800,000 users by unblocking at least one person on that user ’s block list for around one week. According to Facebook ’s data, 85 percent of people had only one person on their block list unblocked due to the bug .

Man (24) dies following stabbing at pub in Limerick city .
A 24-year-old man has died following a stabbing at pub in Limerick city on Saturday night. The man suffered serious stab wounds at Sexton Street North shortly before midnight. He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A post mortem examination is scheduled to take place today and the local coroner has been notified. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
