  Protesters clash with police over man's death Fires have been set off and bricks thrown at police as protesters hold a march over the death of a man after a traffic stop. Campaigners allege Edir Frederico Da Costa was "brutally beaten" after he was stopped in a car by Met Police officers in Newham, east London.It is believed officers used force and sprayed the 25-year-old with CS gas, before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died six days later.

On its mainland, Portugal is also fighting dozens of forest fires . (10.08.2016). At least 24 people were killed in central Portugal on Saturday after a forest fire swept across a roadway near the area of Pedrogao Grande, 200 km (124 miles) south of Lisbon.

Dozens of people have died in a number of forest fires in central Portugal, as temperatures pass 40C. 

The Portuguese government says the number of dead is now 39, with many dying in their cars as flames swept over a road.

Interior Ministry official Jorge Gomes said 16 people died in their cars between the towns of Figueiro dos Vinhos and Castanheira de Pera and three people died from smoke inhalation in Figueiro dos Vinhos.

Prime Minister Antonio Costa said: "Unfortunately this seems to be the greatest tragedy we have seen in recent years in terms of forest fires.

At least 24 people were killed in central Portugal on Saturday after a forest fire swept across a roadway near the area of Pedrogao Grande, 200 km (124 miles) south of Lisbon. Prime Minister Antonio Costa warned that the number of victims could rise.

"The number of fatalities could still rise.

"The priority now is to save those people who could still be in danger."

About 20 people have been injured, 14 of them seriously.

Spain has sent two water-bombing planes to help their neighbour fight the fires.

'Indescribable' damage inside Grenfell revealed .
Footage has been released which shows the "indescribable" damage caused by the Grenfell Tower blaze. The images, released by the Metropolitan Police, reveal how entire flats were gutted in the fire on Wednesday morning - with rubble strewn across floors.Burnt objects including baths, ovens, washing machines, and what looks to be an exercise bike, can be made out in the footage, filmed in one of the few rooms safe enough for specialist crews to access following the blaze.
