  Cork mum gets €100,000 compensation from HSE over baby's death Maria Mullins had sued the HSE over the death of her child in August 2012 on grounds including that the child had not been properly diagnosed .The claims were denied.Dr John O’Mahony SC for Ms Mullins told the court a diagnosis of bronchiolitis was made at Cork University Hospital on Romi Betak when in reality the baby had whooping cough.The child, counsel said, went downhill and a blood sample taken coagulated, so could not be tested.Counsel said if a repeat blood test had been carried out the course for Romi would have been different as a diagnosis could have been made.

Five people have been killed, including one child, in two separate road collisions in Mayo and Cork . Two women aged in their 40s and 70s, and a seven -year-old boy , were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with an articulated lorry just outside of Claremorris on the N17 road.

Six people were injured in a two-car collision in Co. Limerick on Monday morning while a young boy is understood to be seriously injured in a separate road accident in Cork.

The first crash, involving two cars, happened on the N20 road at Creggane in Bruree, Co. Limerick shortly after 11.30am, RTE reports.

One person is understood to be seriously hurt.

Three of those injured in the Limerick crash were taken to Cork University Hospital while the other three were taken to University Hospital Limerick.

The N20 road has now fully reopened after a section of it was closed off to allow an investigation by garda forensic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, in Cork, a six-year-old boy was reportedly injured in an accident between Belgooly and Riverstick on the main Kinsale Road just after 7pm this evening.

The Irish Sun reports he was taken to University Hospital Cork with serious injuries.
