The gang of joyriding thugs who terrorised a north Dublin suburb at the weekend were believed to be paying a twisted tribute to dead criminal Shane Fowler.

The gang stole a number of cars and brought them to the Berryfield housing estate in Finglas on Saturday.

Dublin Live has learned that the thugs were friends of Fowler, who was killed in a motorcycle accident while carrying a loaded gun last week - and they were said to be paying a unique albeit warped tribute to their gang leader.

A video of the horrific incident went viral over the weekend and showed cars performing stunts in the estate.

“Locals were terrified by the display and were deeply upset – it just goes to show what these young people think of their communities.”

The video of the thugs careering around the estate in at least three vehicles has been shared on social media app WhatsApp.

At one point, one of the cars skids within feet of a parked Volkswagen Polo belonging to a local resident, while at another point, a driver comes just inches from a passing pedestrian.

The mayhem unfolded in front of terrified children, who can be heard watching the cars smashing into each other just inches from their doorsteps.
