This is believed to be the site where gardai have begun digging as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Dublin man Trevor Deely.

An officer could be seen outside as a JCB and other excavation vehicles arrived at the scene.

A press conference will be held later today in relation to Trevor Deely, who went missing 17 years ago, in which gardai are expected to confirm the search site.

Gardai were believed to be searching an area in West Dublin, which is not far from the city, this morning in connection with the investigation.

Trevor went missing in the early hours of 8 December, 2000 while he was walking home from a Christmas party in the city centre.

Gardaí are trying to identify a man who spoke to Trevor Deely shortly before he went missing in Dublin in December 2000. The new development, which gardaí believe is significant, came about as a result of technological advances in the examination of CCTV footage.

In the first of a three-part series originally published in February 2015, reporter Rosita Boland recreates the days and hours before Trevor Deely ’s disappearance. They just assume missing equals dead. That’s human nature. But where ’s the proof? I am not willing to believe that aliens came down and

After the party, 22-year-old Trevor called to his office at Bank of Ireland Asset Management to collect an umbrella because of the poor weather conditions that night.

A major breakthrough in the case was made in April when CCTV footage from the night he disappeared emerged.

At 3.34am, moments before Trevor approached his office at Wilton Place, a man dressed in black followed him to the back gate of Bank of Ireland , where the two spoke to each other.

The new footage shows the same man acting suspiciously outside the rear entrance of the bank from 2.59am - more than half an hour before Trevor arrived.

And Gardai believe this man is the same person who is captured passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road at 4.14.55am, 34 seconds after the last known images of Trevor Deely that morning.
