Islamist extremists who are shown to be “a clear and present danger” to the British people should be stripped of their citizenship, Ukip leader Paul Nuttall has said.

Denial of UK nationality is on a list of measures which should be considered in response to the recent spate of terror attacks, also including the extension from 14 to 28 days of pre-charge detention for suspects, Mr Nuttall said.

Mosques which “preach hatred” should be shut down, and the authorities should consider the return of control orders and the imposition of electronic tags for radicals suspected of planning attacks, he said.

Mr Nuttall said he “would not take anything off the table” in the possible response to terror, including internment of suspected jihadis.

“I would do anything to ensure that British families, British men, women and children are kept safe,” said the Ukip leader. “That is paramount, and I would put that ahead of the human rights of any would-be jihadi.”

Asked during a phone-in on LBC radio whether he would strip UK nationality from those on MI5 lists of potential terror concerns, Mr Nuttall said: “It can happen and it can be done and it is something I wouldn’t be opposed to.

“I believe that if anybody goes out to support or fight for Islamic State in the Middle East, you should have your passport revoked and you should never, ever be allowed back into this country.

“If this man is found to be a clear and present danger to the British people – to British men, women and children – then I tell you what, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

Defending his call for radical mosques to be shut down, he added: “If a mosque is found preaching hatred or promoting the values of Islamic State, I believe it doesn’t have any place in this country and I guarantee that the vast majority of Muslims in this country would agree with me.”

Ariana Grande to be given honorary citizenship of Manchester .
Ariana Grande's contributions to Manchester are set to be recognised by awarding her citizenship of the U.K. city. The 23-year-old singer organised the One Love Manchester concert to raise money for the victims of the terrorist attack at her gig at Manchester Arena just two weeks beforehand, in which 22 people died. The concert, attended by around 50,000 people, raised almost $3.8 million (£3 million) for the victims, and now the council have proposed she should be honoured for her actions. In a new system put forward by the city council, some people from outside of Greater Manchester could be given honorary citizenship of the city. This will be an additional method of honouring as well as the freedom of the city, which will remain the highest honour the city can give and has only been awarded four times this century. Council leader Sir Richard Leese said that many would already consider Ariana to be an "honorary Mancunian", adding: "This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city. "We've all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May - with love and courage rather than hatred and fear." He said that Ariana had "exemplified this response". In addition, Manchester City Council will be holding an event later this year to recognise the "great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit in the aftermath of the atrocity". The plans for the new system of honours will be put before the council on 12 July.
