KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Nepalese rescuers on Friday found three bodies near the wreckage of a U.S. Marine helicopter that disappeared this week during a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation, and officials said it was unlikely there were any survivors from the crash.

The bodies of five people have been found with the wreckage of a helicopter following a search in Snowdonia.

North Wales Police said they would not be revealing the precise location "at this time to allow a dignified and unhindered recovery of the bodies".

A statement added that the terrain was "described as very difficult and challenging".

Superintendent Gareth Evans said: "The aircraft, a red Twin Squirrel helicopter had failed to arrive in Dublin from Luton yesterday afternoon instigating a full sea and then land search and rescue operation.

8 bodies have been found at the site where a U.S. helicopter crashed, according to the Nepali Army. Pilot was Capt. Chris Norgren of Wichita, Kansas, his parents say. The U.S. Joint Task Force confirmed the wreckage , eight miles north of Charikot, was that of the missing UH-1Y Huey helicopter .

Superintendent Evans said conditions were "described as atrocious with visibility down to less than 10 metres in places", adding that the area was "remote and in places hazardous".

Formal identification of those on board the helicopter is yet to take place, while their families are being supported by Police Family Liaison Officers.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch will lead an investigation.

The search began after the privately-owned Twin Squirrel aircraft went missing on Wednesday afternoon.

The Twin Squirrel is described as a light utility helicopter.

Introduced in the mid-1970s, it is said to need little maintenance and has a reputation for durability.

Search crews are hoping that sea conditions will remain calm to allow them to lift the wreckage of an Irish Coast Guard helicopter on the Atlantic seabed. Naval Service dive teams travelled to the main search area on Sunday morning to review weather conditions at the site of the wreck just off Blackrock island, about 13km (eight miles) off the coast of Co Mayo.RTE is reporting that dive teams have successfully attached lifting equipment to the wreckage. Rescue 116 lies 40m down, with divers needing swells below 3m for a safe recovery operation.Heavy swells and currents prevented dives to the aircraft on Saturday.
