Raiders' inaction becoming embarrassing as Khalil Mack holdout continues If the Khalil Mack situation gets ugly enough for Oakland to trade him, the Raiders will be losers no matter what they get in return. The beginning of the new Jon Gruden era was not supposed to be this dysfunctional. When asked about Mack's holdout for a contract extension that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid defensive players, Gruden was quick to point out that, even with the league's 2016 defensive player of the year, Oakland's defense was not great in 2017. General manager Reggie McKenzie told Raider Nation not to panic, but it's hard to buy those rational thoughts.

Although they’ve made clear they aren’t staging a protest, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and linebacker Khalil Mack became the latest set of NFL teammates to show solidarity “Any kid, any family, any adult that follows us or looks up to us, we knew their eyes would be on us,” Carr said .

The Raiders will play their first preseason game Friday and, according to, will be without defensive end Khalil Mack.

The All-Pro defensive end continues his holdout and will not be participating in camp before Oakland's opener, Adam Schefter reported.

Mack, who is entering the final season of his rookie contract, will be fined $814,000, per the collective bargaining agreement, for the no-show.

He was named the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a 2015 first-team All-Pro at both defensive end and outside linebacker. To date, Mack has 40.5 career sacks.

Raiders have big plans for WR Martavis Bryant, Jon Gruden says .
Oakland traded a third-round pick for Bryant this offseason, and like his time with Pittsburgh, he won’t be relied upon as the top option."Martavis is not a good talent, he's a great talent and we're going to continue to work him into our offense," Gruden said after practice Wednesday (via NBC Bay Area). "Today showed, I think, what he's capable of doing. ... We have big plans for him.
