Andy Carroll and Winston Reid ruled out for three months with injury

Andy Carroll and Winston Reid ruled out for three months with injury Senior West Ham duo Andy Carroll and Winston Reid will miss at least three months of action through injury, as confirmed on the club’s official website. The pair had been in Switzerland for the Hammers’ pre-season preparations as the squad continue to look forward to the 2018/19 campaign under Manuel Pellegrini. Both Carroll and Reid had been making their way back from long-term injury problems and their progression had appeared to be progressing well. However, as revealed by the club’s new head of medical relations Richard Collinge, the two key Hammers stars will miss the start of the Premier League season. Collinge discussed the extent of Carroll’s injury and revealed that after precautionary scans, results showed that the former England international will need to undergo surgery on his ankle. “Andy played and scored in Sunday’s match but is still reporting some discomfort in his ankle and further scans have revealed that he requires some minor surgery to provide more strength and stability to the area.” It was also revealed by Collinge that Reid will require surgery to help the defender recover further from a long-standing knee problem. “Winston has been suffering some swelling around the knee, following the injury that he sustained at Swansea last season, and he too is in need of explorative surgery to clean up the area.

However, replays showed Reid 's foot appeared to lodge in the ground and he remained on the deck for over five minutes as West Ham took no chances on their centre- back 's injury . Reid , who now faces a worrying wait to discover the extent of the damage

West Ham United will be without Andy Carroll for three months after the striker underwent surgery on a foot injury . The club also fear Manuel Lanzini could be absent until the end of February after damaging a hamstring.

"We are obviously very sad to hear that Andy and Winston have suffered setbacks," Pellegrini said.

"This is a big blow for them and us, but we hope to see them back in action as soon as possible.

"It does mean that we have lost two players in key areas, though, and we'll continue to work hard with the owners to make further additions to strengthen the playing squad, beyond the five new signings already confirmed."

West Ham announced the acquisitions of Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko earlier this week and have also added Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski and Ryan Fredericks to their ranks.

Chelsea ready to enter the race to sign Anderson .
West Ham are bracing themselves for competition from Chelsea in the race to sign Felipe Anderson from Lazio. Il Tempo, as cited on Sport Witness, claims that the Blues are readying a €30 million offer as they look to prepare for the arrival of Maurizio Sarri. Sarri is expected to take over from Antonio Conte in the coming days and is a known admirer of Anderson. West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Anderson throughout the summer window, but the two sides are yet to agree on a fee. The player is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, but the lengthy negotiations are slowing down the deal. It is yet to be seen how serious Chelsea’s interest is, with Lazio already demanding closer to €40 million from West Ham, with the latter looking to complete a double deal for Anderson and defender Jordan Lukaku.
