Stoke want loan player in return for Shaqiri deal

Stoke want loan player in return for Shaqiri deal Stoke are reportedly considering asking Liverpool for a player on loan in return as part of any deal to take Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield. The Mirror reports that Gary Rowett is still looking to add to his squad this summer and could utilise Liverpool’s interest in the Swiss winger. Rowett will be in the market for a replacement for Shaqiri, which could see them try and bring in Harry Wilson, who is a target for a wealth of Championship clubs. The report does not state specifically who Stoke would be looking to land, but you can imagine Wilson is one of the names likely to be discussed. Other players who look set to leave Liverpool include the likes of Danny Ward, Ben Woodburn and Danny Ings, but it is unlikely the latter would want to drop into the Championship. Shaqiri is being heavily tipped to make a move to Anfield this summer with Jurgen Klopp keen to add depth to his squad.

Jurgen Klopp expects Danny Ward to challenge Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius and stake a claim for Liverpool's number one jersey in 2017-18, another sign that the 24-year-old will remain at Anfield beyond the summer rather than being dispatched for on another loan stint.

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward could be in line for a promotion next season, report The Times. In front of him, a fascinating battle has played out, with Simon Mignolet finally losing his number one spot to While still a back-up role, as number two Ward at least has a chance of playing, being just one

Liverpool keeper Danny Ward will be given a chance to fight for the Number one spot according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Welsh keeper has been limited in his appearances for Liverpool. However, after impressing Jurgen Klopp in pre-season the former Wrexham man could be in line to make a push for the starting role.

The goalkeeper has reportedly stepped up his game in recent weeks at Melwood, potentially forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ward has spent time away from Liverpool, joining Huddersfield in 2016/17 to help the Terriers gain promotion to the Premier League.

Bury 0-0 Liverpool: Four Findings

Bury 0-0 Liverpool: Four Findings After two strong preseason outings, match three at League Two’s Gigg Lane produced an almost predictable fall to Earth. Liverpool stumbled scoreless to a 0-0 draw to Bury. The Reds played with the kind of ponderous passing without much penetration that can plague them when they are lacking the uptempo pace to punish or any cutting edge up front. Both were missing against Bury as Liverpool kept the ball but failed to do much with it. Again, Jurgen Klopp used split sides with the exception of the goalkeeper for each half. Despite some players putting in better shifts than others, there was little to separate the two lineups. Neither could find a final ball or finish and neither were too troubled by what the opposition had to offer. There was a moment when it looked like Bury might make the Reds blush, when Loris Karius bobbed a ball again, but the struggling keeper recovered and ensured the deadlock. Apart from that, little in this contest qualified as remarkable. Here are four findings from he match.

This is Anfield's Henry Jackson believes the pre-season preparations could become a final chance for Danny Ward to develop as a first -choice goalkeeper at Liverpool. Klopp needs to give Ward toa decent amount of playing time this summer before deciding whether he is worth being retained or not.

Should Liverpool give Danny Ward a chance in goal? Karius was beaten at his near post by Leroy Sane in the first half and went onto concede two more goals as Liverpool won a thriller 4-3.

This comes as more crticism comes Lorius Karius’ way, after making another mistake against Tranmere.

Ward on the other hand put in a great shift during the Reds two opening friendlies against Chester and Tranmere.

Liverpool travel to Bury on Saturday before traveling to Blackburn Rovers next week.

The Reds then fly of to the USA for their Summer tour.

City insert buy-back clause into Gunn deal .
Manchester City have added a buy-back clause into the deal that will take Angus Gunn to Southampton. Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports that the Premier League champions will have the chance to re-sign the player in the future. The England youth international is closing in on a £10 million move to Southampton after a season on loan at Norwich. Gunn was highly rated at Manchester City but has been given the opportunity to go out and fight for first-team football in the Premier League next season. City are keen to protect themselves and want the opportunity to re-sign the player should he go on to fulfil the potential that many people believe he has. Gunn will join Southampton to battle with Alex McCarthy for the number one spot at St Mary’s. The latter impressed during the second half of last season, playing a key role in their fight against relegation, meaning Gunn will need to make a quick impression to oust him as the number one.
