Liverpool join chase for Vazquez

Liverpool join chase for Vazquez Liverpool have joined the race for Real Madrid and Spain winger Lucas Vazquez. According to Spanish outlet Marca, Liverpool are interested in making a move for Vazquez this summer. The report claims that Chelsea, Arsenal and AC Milan are all in the hunt for the Spanish international. Vazquez is currently in Russia with Spain for the World Cup, where he is set to feature in their last 16 clash with the hosts on Sunday. AC Milan have made contact with Real Madrid about a potential deal for Vazquez, but Liverpool could swoop in and seal a deal for the winger. Marca also claims that Liverpool are showing an interest in Vazquez’s Spain and Real Madrid teammate Marco Asensio, who could also be available in the coming months. Vazquez is said to be happy and settled in Madrid, and will not make a decision on his future until after the World Cup.

Christian Vazquez ’s injury was worse than they had hoped. Vazquez will miss six to eight weeks with a broken pinky finger on his throwing hand after he was hurt sliding into second base in a weird play on Saturday night. Red Sox catchers have hit just .225 with a .600 OPS.

During the seventh inning of Boston’s 15-4 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, catcher Christian Vazquez fractured the pinky finger on his throwing hand during an uncontested slide into second base. The Red Sox backup is headed to the disabled list

The Red Sox will be without everyday catcher Christian Vazquez for 6-8 weeks after he undergoes surgery to insert a pin in his broken little finger on his right hand, manager Alex Cora told reporters Monday (via the team's website).

Vazquez, 27, sustained the injury while sliding into second base late in Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City and was placed on the disabled list Sunday.

He is hitting .213/.249/.300 in 60 games and has committed only three errors this season.

Cora and Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski say they are comfortable with Sandy Leon, who'll step in as the primary catcher, and Blake Swihart in Vazquez's absence.

The Red Sox are 63-29 and in first place in the AL East, 2 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Yankees.
