The Mirror reports that City are considering a move for Kovacic in case a deal to sign Jorginho from Napoli falls through. Pep Guardiola’s men are putting plans in place as they brace themselves for late interest from Chelsea for Jorginho. There have been some suggestions that Chelsea and Napoli could negotiate a deal for Jorginho in a bid to make up the numbers in the former’s pursuit of Maurizio Sarri. Kovacic, who is preparing to face England in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday night, is looking to leave Real Madrid this summer. The Croatian fell out of favour at the Bernabeu last season and is looking for regular game time elsewhere. Chelsea had earmarked the player as a potential target for Sarri, but both club’s interest in Jorginho could be the deciding factor.

Jorginho has already agreed personal terms with Man City and is apparently keen to make a switch to the Etihad, but no fee has been agreed between Napoli and the Premier League champions at this time.

Jorginho is due back in London today to undergo a medical with Chelsea, according to reports in Italy. Calcio Mercato reports that the player, who flew to England yesterday, returned to Italy in the early evening as he closes in on his move to Chelsea. The report claims that the player spent the night in Naples but is due to return to England today. A medical at Chelsea is planned before an official announcement can be made by both clubs. Chelsea have stolen the march on Manchester City to complete a deal for the Italian midfielder. Jorginho has been keen to make the move to the Premier League, with both Chelsea and City keen to sign him. Both Maurizio Sarri and Pep Guardiola are known to be huge admirers of the player. The Italian’s arrival will be a welcomed advantage for Sarri at Stamford Bridge having worked so closely with him at Napoli.
