However, it was unclear as to whether or not he would return for the 2018/19 season, be it on a temporary or permanent basis.

Previous reports have suggested that Benitez’s men will be given first refusal on the option to sign him permanently next summer. The Brazilian was a popular figure at St James’ Park, with many fans urging the club to re-sign the player this summer. Kenedy fell out of favour at Chelsea last season and was expected to be moved on this summer. The Brazilian has failed to realise his potential while at Stamford Bridge after arriving with a lot expected of him.
