Spain's 23-man World Cup squad confirmed

Spain's 23-man World Cup squad confirmed Spain, the 2010 World Cup winners, are coming into this tournament with very high hopes. Legends such as Carlos Puyol, Xavi and Iker Casillas have all came to the end of their international careers and a new crop of Spanish tiki taka footballers are on their way. After a disappointing Euro 2016, head coach Vincente Del Bosque resigned, leaving a vacancy for new manager Julen Lopetegui, who named his 23 man squad earlier this week. Most of the Spanish squad basically picks itself. The winners such as Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta are still very much the spine of the team. However, this Spanish squad has a lot of young quality. The likes of Marco Asensio, Saul Ninguez and Lucas Vazquez have all had positive seasons in Madrid. Furthermore, there are a few “not sure” players. Liverpool flop Iago Aspas was given the green light ahead of Alvaro Morata after a good campaign with Celta Vigo, as was Valencia forward Rodrigo. Another shock name to the list was Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal, who was picked ahead of Marcos Alonso, Real Sociedad right back Alvaro Odriozola, who has been named ahead of Alonso and Hector Bellerin, rounds off the 23-man selection for Spain. This squad wil suit playing the typical Spanish, keep ball way. There isn’t a lot of pace through out the side, but hopefully, Lopetegui can show why he was given the job and find a system that works with an incredibly talented 23 man squad.

Spain considering Premier League boss as Lopetegui replacement

Spain considering Premier League boss as Lopetegui replacement Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is on the list of candidates to replace the recently-sacked Spain manager Julen Lopetegui. The Northern Echo claims that the former Real Madrid boss is under consideration. The Spanish Football Federation have taken the bold decision to sack Lopetegui just one day before the World Cup kicks off. The news follows the confirmation that Lopetegui will be taking over at Real Madrid this summer. Following the announcement, there has been contrasting reports about Lopetegui’s future with the Spanish national team, but his departure has now been confirmed. This is not the first time Benitez has been linked with the Spain job. He was a target for the national team when Vicente del Bosque left his post back in 2016. Lopetegui’s departure will throw fresh doubt over Benitez’s immediate future with Newcastle. Benitez has been linked with moves away from St James’ Park following the difficult relationship he has endured with Mike Ashley.

"Julen Lopetegui will be the Real Madrid coach after the celebration of the 2018 World Cup," the club announced on their website on Tuesday. Time will tell, just as it did with Zidane, but right now, the appointment of Lopetegui looks like a risky one for both Madrid and Spain.

Real Madrid has finally roped in the services of the Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui as the club' s coach just 3 days prior to the World Cup. Julen Loptegui will be joining the Los Blancos after the World Cup and would be leading the 3 times Champions League winners for three seasons.

"It was not the most ideal or opportune moment."

"You never know, the players have already seen it all and sure, they can play a good role at the World Cup," he said.

"Leadership will not be missing, there is [Sergio] Ramos, [Gerard] Pique, [Andres] Iniesta.

"There are very prepared people and a very good atmosphere. It's not the best situation but at the same time, it unites them more and they give more of themselves, you never know."

Real Madrid to rival Liverpool for Lyon forward Fekir .
Real Madrid are ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir, according to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas. The France forward looking likely to sign for Liverpool before the World Cup begun earlier this month, but the deal fell apart late on. It had looked like Fekir would remain with the French club for next season, however Aulas revealed today that the 24-year old could still move on, and that other parties are ready to enter the fray. Speaking to French television, Aulas claimed medical issues weren’t the reason the Fekir deal collapsed, that talks were progressing too slowly, and that Madrid have been interested since Julen Lopetegui’s appointment as manager. Speaking to RT France, as quoted by Mirror Sport, Aulas said: “Yeah, listen, at that stage it was foreseen he would go to Liverpool, I had given it the green light to go ahead. but it just took too long, things were just too drawn out.” “He is an exceptional player, he keeps the ball in little space and has an incredible talent. The fact that things didn’t conclude with Liverpool and it didn’t happen in that timeframe has peaked the interest of a lot of other clubs – Real Madrid, but not just Real Madrid and their new trainer.” “There is a lot of interest from other camps, so everything is possible.
