Tim Lincecum will not be making his MLB comeback this year, at least not with the Rangers.

According to multiple reports, the Rangers will grant the two-time Cy Young winner his unconditional release.

He posted a 5.68 ERA in 10 appearances and a 1.82 WHIP with 14 hits and nine walks allowed in 12 2/3 innings.

The Rangers had to make a decision on Lincecum by Wednesday on whether to call him up or give him his release, since his 30-day rehab assignment in the minors ended Tuesday. They apparently decided on the latter.

FOR RELEASE : Yes, this is Tim Lincecum at @DrivelineBB. This season, the best-case scenario for Lincecum and the Rangers might be something decidedly un-Freakish: the drawing of a line between his freakish throwing—which came so naturally, until it didn’t—and more classical pitching.

Texas technically will activate Lincecum from the 60-day disabled list and then grant him his release.

Lincecum has not pitched in MLB since 2016 when he was eventually released by the Angels.
