Cardinals starter Michael Wacha carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning Sunday against the Pirates.

Wacha had allowed just two runners to reach base through eight innings in St. Louis. But, Pirates infielder Colin Moran led off the top of the ninth with a pinch hit single. Wacha was then removed from the game.

Wacha threw 111 pitches and struck out eight batters in his eight plus innings on the mound. He walked just two hitters in St. Louis’ 5-0 win.

Wacha set the Pirates down in order through the first four innings but he faced trouble in the fifth. He walked Francisco Cervelli with one out in the frame and followed with another free pass to Gregory Polanco two batters later. But, Wacha induced a groundout from Sean Rodriguez to end the threat.
