Everton eye summer swoop for English striker

Everton eye summer swoop for English striker Everton are trying to sign Sheffield Wednesday starlet George Hirst, report the Liverpool Echo. The 19-year-old is out of contract this summer and has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs. Everton are trying to replace David Henen as the Belgian forward is leaving the club after three years on Merseyside. The 22-year-old failed to make an appearance in his time and has been told he won’t be staying. Signing Hirst will cost the Toffees a compensatory fee, as he is under 23 and was offered an extension at Hillsborough, which he rejected. The Englishman is tipped to reach the top of English football, and he showcased his talents at last year’s Toulon Tournament, scoring four goals as England went on to win the final on penalties. He is yet to make an impact with the Owls and they have refused to include him in the first team due to him deciding he doesn’t have a future there. Everton will face competition for the striker with Manchester United and Leicester also extremely interested in him.

Everton have announced the signing of German forward Anton Donkor on loan from Wolfsburg for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old, who is left footed but can operate in a number of attacking positions, is set to link up with the Toffees' Under-23 side.

Everton striker Henry Onyekuru is set for another season out on loan, this time at German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Belgian journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen reports that the 20-year-old will not honour the second half of his two-year loan deal agreed with Anderlecht last summer.

This is because of an argument between Onyekuru and Anderlecht manager Hein Vahnhaezebrouck over the striker’s readiness to play.

The striker joined Everton from Belgian side Eupen last summer for a reported fee of £7m and was immediately sent out on loan to then champions Anderlecht.

The striker was forced to have surgery but has not played since, despite being fit for the last few weeks.

It is understood that the Nigerian international has other options on the table, but his preference is to move to the Bundesliga.

His lack of international action means he would not qualify for a work permit in England, therefore the Toffees have no choice but to send him out on loan again.
