Arsenal ready to swoop for Albion's Jonny Evans

Arsenal ready to swoop for Albion's Jonny Evans Arsenal are looking to sign West Brom defender Jonny Evans plus two other centre-backs in an attempt to strengthen a leaky backline, according to the Daily Mirror. The Gunners have conceded over 50 goals this season and with their first choice centre-back Laurent Koscielny now injured for the long-term, defensive recruits this summer are vital. The three defenders Arsenal are currently looking at bringing to the Emirates are Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Jonny Evans and Turkish international Caglar Soyuncu. Gunners chiefs have made moves for Evans in the past, offering big money to West Brom for the Northern Irishman. However, due to a relegation clause in the former Manchester United man’s contract, he is now available for a cut-price fee of £3 million, making it a particularly viable deal for a club the size of Arsenal. Greek defender Sokratis is reported to cost around £15 million, however, the deal may be easier to do with the head of recruitment, Sven Misinlat, being a friend of the Greek international. The North London club have already held talks with Soyuncu of FC Freiburg and he would be another good addition to a backline which could see Shkodran Mustafa leave this summer.

Current Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has received a lot of stick in recent weeks with the Gunners having a poor domestic season. How could Arsenal line up after a summer of big transfers?

Newcastle star rules out a move away from St James’ Park this summer .
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has ruled out the chances of a him moving away from St James’ Park in this transfer window, despite apparent interest from elsewhere, according to the Northern Echo. The centre-back has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, after a season which has seen him named as one of the ‘most consistent’ defenders in the league. The former Forest man just missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad but has no desire to leave the North East club for better things any time soon. The Magpies skipper said: “I’m very happy here. You hear things, you hear rumours and stuff, but I’m a young player and I need to be playing football at a good club – and that’s what this is.” The 24-year-old has been linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea but Rafa Benitez has a great relationship with the Englishman and will likely be desperate for him to stay.
