Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera expressed anger and disbelief Tuesday after learing about Seattle Mariners star Robinson Canó ’ s 80-game suspension . He said his first thought was that this could affect Canó ’ s Hall of Fame chances. “That’s why I’m so mad ,” Cabrera said.

Miguel Cabrera is outraged over Robinson Cano's suspension for taking an MLB-banned substance.

The Tigers first baseman said he knows the Mariners star well and that Cano would never take a banned drug.

“I know Canó for a lot of years and I know he didn’t cheat,” Cabrera told the Detroit Free Press. “I’m f—ing mad right now."

“His doctor prescribed the medication. I think he got all the paperwork. Why he get positive? I don’t understand that. If it’s something for him to get better.”

Cabrera said the main reason he's upset is because he knows that the mark of being suspended for a positive drug test will affect Cano's chances of getting into the Hall of Fame.

The MLBPA has restricted major leaguers David Ortiz, Robinson Cano and Miguel Cabrera from participating in the 2016 Caribbean Series’ Home Run Derby on Wednesday, reports ESPN’ s Jorge Morejon.

Cano is having a career year and his OPS is .953. Cano has never eclipsed 30 HR' s or 100 RBI; Cabrera already achieved those numbers THIS YEAR. The only plus in regards to Cano is defense, due to the fact he plays a more demanding up the middle position.

“That’s why I’m so mad,” Cabrera said. “He’s a Hall of Fame player. He play every day. He do everything right. Now everybody is going to write all this stupid (crap).”

Cano's suspension was announced Tuesday after it was revealed he tested positive for Furosemide, a masking agent that dilutes urine samples. In a released statement, Cano said he didn't take the drug to cheat, but that it was prescribed to him by a Dominican doctor to help treat an ailment.

Cano, who is out 6-8 weeks with a broken bone in his hand, will have to serve an 80-game suspension. The ban will begin immediately.
