West Brom striker Salomon Rondon linked with Cardiff move

West Brom striker Salomon Rondon linked with Cardiff move West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is reportedly a summer target for newly-promoted Cardiff City. The Bluebirds secured their place in the Premier League at the weekend and according to claims from the Daily Mail, they will look to bolster their attacking reinforcements with the signing of Rondon. It’s reported that Neil Warnock’s side will lodge a bid worth £12.5 million as they aim to tempt West Brom into selling their experienced striker. Rondon is believed to have a relegation release clause inserted in his contract worth £16.5m, but Cardiff are seemingly keen to swoop for the forward in a cut-price deal. West Brom’s relegation down to the Championship is not yet confirmed but it remains likely, meaning that a host of first-team players could be set to leave the Hawthorns. The Venezuela international is likely to be one of the first men out of the door if the Baggies do indeed go down, and it appears as though Cardiff will lead a number of potential suitors in their interest in Rondon.

It’s been a season of turmoil for West Brom. After looking like an established mid-table Premier League side, they struggled all the way through and finished last.

Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew both had terrible spells in charge of the Baggies, leaving them in a perilous position.

They had 20 points form the first 32 games of the season, with Pardew picking up eight points in his 18 games as manager.

Darren Moore gave Albion slight hope of a revival, picking up 11 points in his first five games as caretaker boss, but they ended up being relegated after eight years in the top flight.

The signings made under both Pulis and Pardew failed to allow Albion to push on, and that is just one factor in their downfall.

We’ve decided to grade their signings this season from A-F to see how much they have contributed to the downfall of the Midland’s club.

West Brom Target Stefan Lainer .
Despite the disappointment of Premier League relegation, the West Brom board have been swift in their preparations for the coming season. After appointing Darren Moore, a list of target players have been compiled who management see as capable of launching the club straight back to the top tier of English football. According to reports in Austria, one of these is Stefan Lainer, currently of Red Bull Salzburg. According to WhoScored, the right-back made 53 appearances for club and country this season, including 14 in Salzburg’s Europa League run which saw them reach the semi-finals. He is also capable of playing anywhere down the right flank, whether that be in midfield or on the wing. Since arriving in 2015, the Austrian has made 74 appearances for the club, having been at FC Liefering and SV Reid earlier in his career. It is not clear yet, should he sign, whether the 25-year-old will slot into the first team ahead of Allan Nyom and Craig Dawson. This may be just one of a number of moves for the relegated club, whether they be incomings or outgoings, as Darren Moore and the West Brom board will look to transform the club.
