Liverpool confident about £40m Butland deal

Liverpool confident about £40m Butland deal Liverpool are reportedly confident that they will secure the services of Jack Butland this summer. The Mirror report that Liverpool are closing in on a £40 million deal with Jurgen Klopp thought to be the deciding factor in the player’s mind. The Stoke City goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to both Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks, but the player has his heart set on an Anfield switch. Working alongside Klopp is reportedly something that interests Butland, something that helped the Reds beat Manchester City to the signature of Virgil van Dijk too. A £40 million deal would see Butland become the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, surpassing the £37 million that Manchester City spent on Ederson last summer. Loris Karius has impressed since becoming Liverpool’s number one, but Klopp is still expected to look for a new number one this summer. Roma’s Allison has also been linked with a switch to Anfield, but the Brazilian is also attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Betting odds: Newcastle now just 2/1 to beat Southampton to sign Eibar's Dani Garcia . One player set to attract interest is Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia , who has already been linked with a potential move to England next month.

Eibar's Dani Garcia has been linked with a move to Southampton . Southampton and West Ham United are reportedly keen on Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia .

Southampton are still being linked with a summer move for Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia.

It was reported in December that Saints were keen on signing the midfielder from the La Liga outfit but no move came to fruition during the January transfer window.

However, according to a report from Spanish news outlet AS, Saints remain keen as Garcia continues to ponder his future with Eibar. The 27-year-old is a key player for his side, though, and they will undoubtedly be desperate to keep hold of him.

Although, Garcia’s contract with Eibar does indeed expire at the end of the season, meaning he is able to join a club for free should the player agree terms with a potential suitor.

Kelvin Davis to take charge at Saints whilst manager search continues

Kelvin Davis to take charge at Saints whilst manager search continues Southampton’s Senior First Team Coach Kelvin Davis and Head of Goalkeeping Dave Watson will be in temporary charge at the club until a new manager is appointed, but the Saints board want a new boss in place when Saints face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup quarter finals, according to Chief football writer at the Press Association, Simon Peach. Mauricio Pellegrino was sacked earlier this evening with Saints in 17th place in the Premier League. It seems like the 3-0 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend was the straw that broke the camel’s back and with Southampton in serious danger of being relegated, the board have decided to make a change. Former Saints goalkeeper Davis, who played over 300 games for the club, will take training whilst the search for new boss goes on, and he’ll be aided by Watson, who originally joined the club as part of Ronald Koeman’s backroom staff.

Southampton are currently leading the race for the signature of Eibar's skipper Dani Garcia according to the Mirror. Sports Illustrated may receive compensation for some links to products and services on this website.

West Ham United and Southampton want Eibar's Dani Garcia , with the Spanish midfielder impressing in La Liga and in demand. Why Steve Bruce continues to split opinion at Aston Villa.

Athletic Bilbao have been most heavily linked with a move for Garcia but it’s claimed by AS that the “temptation” of a move to the Premier League remains.

Southampton are joined by Newcastle in their apparent interest in Garcia.

Newcastle charged over U18 shirt sponsorship .
Newcastle United have been charged by the FA due to their Under-18 team’s kit being sponsored by FUN88, a Chinese betting company, the BBC have reported. The first team is also sponsored by the online betting site, however, the FA have stated that it is an offence that is in breach of the kit and advertising regulations. FA rules state that kits displaying or advertising “services and related activities such as alcohol and gambling” cannot be worn by U18 teams. The regulation continues to say that any teams that feature players “all under the age of 18 on 31 August in the current season is prohibited from wearing clothing that features any reference whatsoever to a product, service or other activity which is considered by the association as detrimental to the welfare, health or general interest of young persons”. Newcastle United U18’s previous match, a 7-0 loss to Everton, was played without a kit sponsor. Newcastle now have until 18:00 on Thursday to respond to the charge.
