Manchester United , Liverpool and Arsenal will battle to sign Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij on a free transfer this summer after he failed to agree a new contract. De Vrij took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm that he would leave the Serie A club at the end of the season.

Liverpool and Manchester United are set to battle in the race to sign Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij.

According to The Guardian, both sides are looking to sign the defender this summer and will be competing against each other for his signature.

Liverpool have been touted with interest in De Vrij for some time now and are strong contenders to sign the Dutchman.

Manchester United have now joined the race and will look to make sure he does not end up at Anfield.

De Vrij was reportedly on the verge of a move to Inter Milan, before the move collapsed earlier this week.

This has opened the door for Liverpool to swoop in and sign De Vrij on a free transfer.

His contract with Lazio expires at the end of the season and it has been confirmed that he will not be signing a new deal with the Italian outfit.

Inter director Piero Ausilio has played down suggestions that the club has a deal in place to sign Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij. Football Italia reports that Ausiolio is giving little away about the club’s summer transfer plans. “I cannot confirm something like that. I can only talk about Inter and our players.” De Vrij is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with Liverpool, Inter, Juventus and Manchester United in recent months. After failing to agree on a new deal at the club, the defender is widely expected to leave Lazio in the summer, with Inter leading the chase. The 26-year-old Dutch international had been earmarked by the Reds as a potential partner for his fellow countryman Virgil van Dijk. With no transfer fee involved in the deal, de Vrij is not going to be short suitors by the end of the season. Despite concerns over his future, the defender has impressed in the Lazio defence this season as his side push for Champions League qualification.
