Ross Barkley signs for Chelsea

Ross Barkley signs for Chelsea Everton Football Club have today confirmed that they have sanctioned the sale of Ross Barkley to Chelsea. Twitter: | Ross Barkley has completed a move from Everton to Chelsea. (@Everton) The England international had been angling for a move away from Goodison Park since the summer but opted to remain at the club to recover from a long-term injury. He is now building his way back to full fitness and has joined Chelsea in a cut-price deal. Although Barkley had the chance to join the Blues for a fee worth roughly £35 million in the summer, he will now arrive at Stamford Bridge for only £15 million. Barkley came through the ranks at Everton but soon became disillusioned with proceedings as he looked to further his career. He will now hope to make an impression at Chelsea under the tutelage of Antonio Conte, despite the club’s depth in central areas.

The performance today was much better, and although it again resulted in nothing, it was certainly an improvement on some of the drivel Allardyce has been serving up lately, so at least we have that.

It was the debut of Cenk Tosun, who certainly made a big impression. Not with a goal but by making us remember what Lukaku was like. He was everywhere he needed to be and won a lot of the battles he was dragged into. With some better service, he can definitely become a hit soon enough.

There were some other considerable positives on show, the main one being Mason Holgate who is looking more and more like the leading man at the back with excellent performance after excellent performance. Meanwhile Wayne Rooney seemed to turn things around in the first half as he got forward much more than recently and seemed to gain a step back.

Everton join the race to sign Alfie Mawson

Everton join the race to sign Alfie Mawson Everton are the latest team to express an interest in Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, as per the Mirror. Sam Allardyce is reportedly ready to spend upwards of £50 million to secure a double deal for both Mawson and Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure. West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Mawson and have reportedly had a bid turned down. With ageing central defenders in the former of Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka, Allardyce is keen to sign another central defender. Mawson has impressed this season in a struggling Swansea side who sit bottom of the Premier League after the festive period. Doucoure, who has impressed for Watford under Marco Silva, has been identified as a cheaper alternative to Steven N’Zonzi, who has been linked with a move to Goodison Park ever since Allardyce took the job. Allardyce has turned Everton’s season around after some early relegation fears but wants to ensure a strong finish.

Overall, not a good day, but a day with decent promise going forward.

That’s what I would say if we weren’t such an embarrassment.

We have spent incomprehensible amounts of money to improve this team and, as I think I said last week, we’re miles worse off than when we were under Moyes in the late 00’s

We’re a dysfunctional unit that is resorting to playing kids who should be having time to develop at the club because the players that Steve Walsh brings in are absolute failures. We then turn to Sam Allardyce, who no one with any pride wanted anyway, and after a period of stability shows just how out of touch he is. We shouldn’t have sacked Koeman, that’s pretty clear now, at least until we had a proper replacement lined up.

Get this season over with and clear out a good 7-10 players from the squad and make sure Allardyce doesn’t set foot inside Finch Farm past May. It’s the worst Everton squad I’ve ever seen, that’s for sure, and it needs drastic change and soon.

Tosun admits his transfer almost collapsed .
Everton completed the signing of Cenk Tosun earlier this month for £27 million from Turkey but he has now confirmed that the move came very close to breaking down, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. Tosun came to London with his partner as talks of his move progressed but it took much longer than he would have liked it. The trip was arranged as part of his plans for New Year before he had made the move to Everton. Both clubs struggled to agree on the fee at first which left to Tosun in limbo, wanting to leave the country. It wasn’t until the first week of January that Besiktas president Fikret Orman held talks with people in Everton and the deal progressed swiftly from there. The January signing explained exactly happened with his transfer. “I had already planned to spend the New Year in London but the transfer took a long time, longer than expected, a day or two before I was going to go back the owner called me to tell me that I should go and negotiate my terms with Everton.” He also admitted that leaving his club Besiktas and the fans was a tough thing to do. “Everybody knows what a big Besiktas fan I am, it was my childhood team and so it was difficult to leave, Besiktas and the supporters played a great role in where I am now.
