Valencia have agreed a £12m fee with Arsenal for the transfer of midfielder Francis Coquelin, Sky Sports News understands.

The 26-year-old prepares to move to Spain after rejecting interest from Premier League clubs West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

The French midfielder has been at Arsenal for almost a decade but appearances in the first team this season have been limited with just seven starts in all competitions.

When quizzed about Coquelin's future on Tuesday, manager Arsene Wenger said: "It's a possibility [Coquelin's departure] but nothing is decided."

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Frenchman is set to depart the Emirates and Valencia have emerged as potential suitors. Coquelin has found first-team game time hard to come by this season and after a long stint with the Gunners, it seems he could be on his way out in the near future. The 26-year-old midfielder is said to be a target for West Ham this month but it looks as though the Premier League outfit will not be alone in their interest in the former France Under-21 international. Coquelin has flattered to deceive since bursting onto the scene for Arsenal some years ago. Although he has shown glimpses of quality during his tenure with the club, he has never truly fulfilled his potential. West Ham are also stated in the report to be keen on Coquelin’s fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who is also out of favour at Arsenal.

GETTY. Francis Coquelin is destined to leave Arsenal after nearly 10 years at the club. The French ace is also reported target for West Ham and Crystal Palace. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is beginning an overhaul of his squad and Coquelin is no longer part of his plans.

The midfielder made his debut for Arsenal in 2008 having signed from French club Stade Lavallois that summer.

Loan spells at Lorient, Freiburg and Charlton followed before Coquelin broke into the Arsenal first team on a regular basis in the 2014/15 season.

Coquelin won two FA Cups with the club appearing in the 2015 and 2017 finals but the re-emergence of Jack Wilshere as well as competition from Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny has forced Coquelin to seek a move abroad.

Arsenal are expected to open contract discussions with Wilshere in the next week with the England midfielder's deal coming to an end in June.
