Chelsea given boost in hunt for Manolas but face competition

Chelsea given boost in hunt for Manolas but face competition According to talkSPORT, Chelsea receive a boost in their pursuit of Roma’s Kostas Manolas after news on his release clause, but will face competition from London rivals Arsenal for the Greek defender. Manolas has been linked with a move to the Premier League a lot since breaking onto the scene at Roma. He has been mainly linked with Manchester United but now Chelsea and Arsenal are keen on his services. The Blues brought in Manolas’ ex-Roma teammate, Antonio Rudiger, in the summer but with Antonio Conte falling out with David Luiz and Gary Cahill not performing to standards, Chelsea are after a new centre-back. Manolas signed a new contract at Roma very recently, which includes a £32.75m release clause and with the riches that both Chelsea and Arsenal have, that seems a bargain for someone of Manolas’ stature. Juventus and Zenit St Petersburg are both interested in Manolas as well as the Premier League clubs, but with the opportunity to play both Premier League and Champions League, it maybe hard to resist for Manolas.

The striker has found the back of the net eight times this season in 16 appearances, during an injury-hit campaign so far.

With so much interest in the young forward, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers faces a huge task next month to try and persuade Dembele to remain at Celtic Park for the rest of the season.

Celtic aiming to have Compper deal wrapped up by Christmas .
As previously reported, Celtic were looking to sign centre-back, Marvin Compper, and as a report in The Daily Record suggests, the Champions are well on the way to securing a move and could be done as early as Christmas. The 32-year-old who has fallen out of favour at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga also has experience playing in Italy with Fiorentina and looks to be available in a deal worth around £1 million. Compper, originally born in Germany, has been said to have had a VIP tour of Parkhead as the Glasgow Giants look to secure this transfer. The experienced defender fits what Brendan Rodgers will be looking for as he is keen to strengthen what has been a shaky and unsettled defence. Twitter: #Celtic pretty positive about their chances of signing Leipzig central defender Marvin Compper in Jan. 32-year-old… (@BBCchrismclaug) Injuries to Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata have meant that Nir Bitton has had to play out of position in the defence on many occasions this season and despite putting in some good shifts, Celtic really need two central defenders they can rely on if they want to progress as a team. The only downside to this possible move is that Compper would be ineligible to play when the Hoops face Zenit St. Petersburg in the last 32 of the Europa League, after playing for Leipzig in European football earlier in the season.
