Gary Cahill reveals the need for silverware at Chelsea this season

Gary Cahill reveals the need for silverware at Chelsea this season Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits the Premier League champions are under just as much pressure to win silverware again this season. As reported by the Evening Standard, Cahill claims that the Chelsea squad are aware of their requirements after what happened during the club’s last title defence. “The pressure is on. We won something last season and this season [the pressure] will be no different. We need to prepare well and to realise what happened the last time we won the title. There are still a lot of players here that were involved in that. They have had that experience and they don’t want it again.” A disastrous season saw the club’s effort to defend their title capitulate and Jose Mourinho sacked by the Blues for the second time. The England international may have feared for his place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI this summer following the signing of Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma, however, Cahill, who captained the side for large periods of the season, has recently been named as the new club captain. Pre-season for the club has not quite gone as hoped after back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan after promising victory over Arsenal, who the Blues meeting in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Did Gary Cahill deserved to receive a straight red card for this tackle on Steven Defour in Chelsea’s 3-2 defeat by Burnley? Judge for yourself...

In the 14th minute at Stamford Bridge, new Chelsea captain Cahill lost control of the ball in midfield before going in late on Defour, leaving his studs up with referee Craig Pawson close to the incident.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte joked that he will prepare his side to go down to 10 men for the next game.

"[Cahill's early sending off] was a key moment, because to play the rest of the game with 10 men, and then with nine men, is not easy. But in the last three games we end the game with 10 men or less.

Conte then joked: "I think I will have to adapt a new system to play with nine men or 10 men for the next game, to anticipate this situation!"

WATCH: Chicarito double in vain .
Javier Hernandez scored a double for West Ham but it proved in vain as Southampton nicked victory. The striker was scoring his first Premier League goals since April 2014 (1232 days ago).Amazingly, all 39 of his goals in the English top-flight have come inside the box. Indeed, only Tim Cahill (56) and John Terry (41) and have scored more Premier League goals without ever netting one from outside the box than Hernandez. The striker didn't deserve to be on the losing side as this looks £16m well spent already.
