Watford enquire for Alberto Moreno

Watford enquire for Alberto Moreno Watford have lodged an official enquiry for Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno, according to IBTimesUK. The Reds defender had a superb game against Bayern Munich in Liverpool’s recent friendly, but looks likely to be surplus to Jurgen Klopp’s requirements ahead of next season. Liverpool have already signed Andy Robertson from Hull in this window for a fee of around £8m, offering a rotational option to James Milner. This could spell the end of Moreno’s time at Anfield, with Watford seemingly keen to bring him in this summer. Marco Silva’s side are somewhat weak on the left hand side of defence, and Moreno would undoubtedly bolster the Hornets’ options, while offering competition to Jose Holebas. It’s stated in the report that Silva is a big fan of Moreno’s speed and technical ability, and a move is most certainly plausible if Klopp is content with the two defensive options at his disposal at left-back. Moreno signed for the Reds back in 2014 but has failed to tie down a regular place in the starting line-up.

Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero both netted late goals as Manchester City came from behind to beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road on Saturday. The former Tottenham goalkeeper came out to deny Fernandinho who was looking to latch on to David Silva's 29th-minute pass and Raheem Sterling

Watford, led by Marco Silva for the first time in the Premier League, regained the lead soon after through Abdoulaye Doucoure (32) but second-half goals from Roberto Firmino (54) and Mohamed Salah (57) saw Jurgen Klopp's side turn the game on its head.

And Liverpool, who hit the crossbar through Joel Matip, looked to be heading for all three points until Britos (90+4) struck to rescue a point for the Hornets.

Much of the build-up was dominated by the speculation surrounding Philippe Coutinho's future at Anfield which was an unwelcome distraction for Klopp and his side ahead of the season opener.

They had further problems just nine minutes in as Okaka ghosted into the box unopposed to head Jose Holebas' corner past Simon Mignolet from close range to give Silva the perfect start to his Watford reign.

Watford 3-3 Liverpool RECAP as Miguel Britos scores late equaliser to deny Klopp's side comeback win

Tom Ince's late intervention against Watford injected new life into Huddersfield Town's fight against relegation.

Liverpool had hardly had a kick but found themselves back on level terms in the 29th minute when Emre Can's sensational flick picked out Mane, who curled the ball into the top corner.

However, Klopp's men were level for all of three minutes as Watford, who replaced the injured Daryl Janmaat with Kiko Femenia, took advantage of more poor Liverpool defending through Doucoure's close-range finish.

Immediately after the break Watford lost Roberto Pereyra to injury, handing Richarlison his Premier League debut, and they lost their lead, Firmino making no mistake from the spot after Salah was brought down by Heurelho Gomes.

Liverpool completed the turnaround three minutes later. Dejan Lovren's long ball picked out Firmino, who lifted the ball over the onrushing Gomes, leaving Salah to bundle the ball home from close range to secure a debut goal.

The visitors went close to extending their lead when Matip's header cannoned back off the crossbar and Salah's shot rustled the side netting, but missed chances came back to haunt the Reds deep into injury time.

Liverpool team news: Watford (A)

Liverpool team news: Watford (A) It’s that time! The Premier League season kicks off today, well with the exception of Arsenal’s 4-3 victory over Leicester on Friday night. For football fans across the country, it’s something we wait all summer for. The Reds kick things off with a journey down to what has been to us a very unforgiving Vicarage Road. Our last two results against Watford have bought a 3-0 defeat for the Reds, and a slim 1-0 victory courtesy of Emre Can’s sublime overhead kick, which was voted the Goal of the Season. Liverpool appear to be in good shape heading into the opening game, however, there are a few players that will miss out: Daniel Sturridge (Thigh injury, duration 1 week). Adam Lallana (Thigh injury, duration 2-3 months) Nathaniel Clyne (Hamstring, 2-3 weeks) Philippe Coutinho (Back strain, duration – likely to miss opening games v Watford and Hoffenheim). In his press conference on Friday, Jurgen Klopp said: “Coutinho has back problems. He’s not available. He’s also a doubt for Tuesday unfortunately. He hasn’t trained since last Friday.” The boss also went on to confirm positive news about Sturridge, “I’m pretty sure Daniel (Sturridge) will be ok for Tuesday.” Danny Ings is closer to a return following his long rehabilitation program coming to a close, this was due to a lengthy lay off with a knee injury. He plays for the U23’s on Friday night. No return date was given for him, but we wish him all the best for a speedy return.

Andy Hinchcliffe: Liverpool needed to turn things around drastically at half-time and the player that did that for them in the second half was Salah.

With no Coutinho, Liverpool were looking to Salah to be this inspiration, this creative spark and his pace and his movement off the ball is absolutely superb.

He got his goal, which was not the most glamourous he'll ever score but his second-half performance, including winning the penalty, was outstanding.

Manager reaction - Jurgen Klopp

"They didn't create too much with the ball but of course they scored two goals and in a specific situation where everyone will say, 'Oh, it was a set-piece'

"We defended most of them really well, but at the end is it enough if we concede one goal? No. We have to work on it."

Pundit view - Jamie Carragher

"On set pieces it's not about the defenders. The way Liverpool are set up - set piece wise - they will always concede goals. No matter which defenders they buy or how much they cost - it won't make a difference."

What next?

It's European action up next for Liverpool as they look to bounce back from their opening day draw. Klopp's side travel to the Rhein-Neckar-Arena to face Hoffenheim for the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

Meanwhile, Watford will be hoping to build on the point when they return to Premier League action next Saturday, August 19 at Bournemouth.
