Watford enquire for Alberto Moreno

Watford enquire for Alberto Moreno Watford have lodged an official enquiry for Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno, according to IBTimesUK. The Reds defender had a superb game against Bayern Munich in Liverpool’s recent friendly, but looks likely to be surplus to Jurgen Klopp’s requirements ahead of next season. Liverpool have already signed Andy Robertson from Hull in this window for a fee of around £8m, offering a rotational option to James Milner. This could spell the end of Moreno’s time at Anfield, with Watford seemingly keen to bring him in this summer. Marco Silva’s side are somewhat weak on the left hand side of defence, and Moreno would undoubtedly bolster the Hornets’ options, while offering competition to Jose Holebas. It’s stated in the report that Silva is a big fan of Moreno’s speed and technical ability, and a move is most certainly plausible if Klopp is content with the two defensive options at his disposal at left-back. Moreno signed for the Reds back in 2014 but has failed to tie down a regular place in the starting line-up.

Liverpool are set to take on Watford in what should be a massive game for their top four finish. By the time Liverpool vs Watford gets underway Liverpool might find themselves in 5th place if both City and United win their games on Sunday.

Liverpool opened the new season at Vicarage Road with a deja vu hangover from last season. The summer seemed insufficient to shake the hangover of laboured movement, toothless possession, and slapstick defending.

The Reds have struggled against bigger, stronger sides for some time now and Watford were ready to bully the visitors from the opening whistle. The Hornets were more than just pests, physically battering Reds all over the pitch and prevented them from achieving any sense of sustained rhythm. It took an entirely sleepy first half for Liverpool to turn things around

Coutinho to miss Liverpool's clash against Watford

Coutinho to miss Liverpool's clash against Watford Philippe Coutinho will miss Liverpool’s first game of the season against Watford as he struggles to overcome a back injury, according to The Telegraph. Amid speculation over his future, a ‘sore back’ sidelined the Brazilian for the Reds’ final pre-season game against Athletic Bilbao. Coutinho has been undergoing treatment at Melwood but, with just three days to go, he is yet to return to training. Liverpool are hopeful the 25-year-old can recover in time for Tuesday’s crucial trip to Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-offs. Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp will be without a number of key players for the visit to Vicarage Road, with Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne ruled out. Daniel Sturridge is also doubtful after picking up a thigh injury against Bayern Munich last month. Captain Jordan Henderson, though, could make his first league appearance since February after returning from illness. The injuries mean Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to start at right-back, while James Milner could be part of a midfield reshuffle.

Of greater concern is what likely impact any of the missing starters might have made in this first eleven. While not truly the problem, both fullbacks struggled for stretches before settling. In midfield, a muddy malaise lacked creativity without Philippe Coutinho in attack. The front three rescued the side from a completely shambolic start to the campaign but it wasn’t enough.

Klopp admits Emre Can's contract situation isn't ideal .
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he would have liked to have Emre Can tied down to a new contract, but insists that the player is happy at the club. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier with Hoffenheim, Klopp said that the two parties are in talks about extending the German midfielder’s contract but as it stands, no deal has been agreed. As reported by the Mirror, he said: “Do I think it is too cool that we didn’t fix it so far? No, to be honest. The situation is not perfect, I would prefer that he has already signed, but I am still positive we can find the right solution. So far there is no signing and that is the situation. We are still in talks. But it is all ok at the moment and we have to take it like this. His mind is not elsewhere. He will play here for the next year that is for sure. All the rest we have to see. In Germany these kind of pressures come up one year before the contract ends. In England it is two years before. Last year, there was no real readiness for negotiations but this year we have talked. We want him and he also wants to stay. It is about a few little details.” Can’s current deal expires at the end of this season which means, as it stands, he’ll be able to have talks with other clubs in January but Liverpool will be hopeful of getting him tied down with a new deal before then. Can joined the Reds back in 2014 for around £10million and having developed him into an international player, Liverpool will not want to simply lose him for free. It is an important contract for him at his age. But I am 100 per cent sure that we don’t sell the player now in this situation.
