VIDEO REVIEW | Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town

VIDEO REVIEW | Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town In this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast, I review the game against Huddersfield Town, where the Terriers recorded a convincing victory at Selhurst Park, by giving you my match review, player rankings as well as my Man of the Match. With just two wins in their last ten games on the first day of a new season, Palace came into the game knowing they difn’t have the best opening day record and once again, their Premier League campaign got off to a poor start as an own goal from Joel Ward and two goals from Steve Mounie condemned the Eagles to defeat. What went wrong for Palace? Will the 3-4-3 formation work? All this and more in this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast. Crystal Palace suffered a nightmare start to the season this afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Premier League new boys, Huddersfield.

The Yorkshire side were playing their first top flight game since 1972 and were clinical throughout.

They took the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances when the ball was bundled in off Joel Ward. Steve Mounie added the second with a powerful header before rounding off a terrible day for the Eagles with strike to Hennessey’s left.

It was Frank De Boer’s first outing as a Premier League manager and it’ll be one he’ll be eager to forget. The South London side put in an abject defensive display as they looked uncomfortable in the new look 3-4-3 formation.

Wilfried Zaha expected to be out for four weeks

Wilfried Zaha expected to be out for four weeks Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is expected to be out of action for four weeks after sustaining an injury during Palace’s opening game of the season against Huddersfield Town, Ed Aarons of the Guardian reports. Zaha was on the receiving end of a number of tackles put in by Huddersfield players as Palace slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to the Premier League new boys. The 24-year-old was seen leaving Selhurst Park after the game with his left leg in a protective cast, before posting a picture of the brace on his Instagram account with the caption “God shall protect me”. It now appears that Zaha could face a whole month on the Crystal Palace sidelines – not the news that Palace manager Frank De Boer would have wanted to hear after his side’s poor performance at the weekend. Zaha is set to miss some key games for Palace against Liverpool, Swansea, Burnley and Southampton whilst he recovers from injury.

There were also competitive debuts for Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Jairo Riedewald either side of Scott Dann in defence, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in midfield.

The Palace faithful will be hoping for a lot better next week as they try to make it four wins out of four at Anfield.

De Boer dismisses reports of Ward leaving .
Joel Ward was linked with a move to West Brom last week. The former Portsmouth man has been the subject of much speculation in recent times, with Frank de Boer’s system causing his first-team chances to be limited near the tail-end of pre-season. However, the new Eagles boss was quick to deny reports suggesting that he would welcome offers for the right-back, and insisted that he is full of admiration and respect for his player. West Brom are keen to land a new full-back this summer and given Ward’s versatility, he is reportedly of interest to Tony Pulis. Despite this though, De Boer clearly values him and sees him as an important aspect of his plans going forward at Palace. Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser, as cited by the Birmingham Mail, after Palace’s embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to Huddersfield on Saturday, De Boer provided assurances over Ward’s future: “Joel Ward is an example for a club like Crystal Palace. He always gives 200 per cent and every manager wants that type of player in the squad.” De Boer and Ward alike will be hoping to secure their first win of the season against Liverpool this weekend.
