Carla Suarez Navarro began her Bucharest Open campaign by thrashing Annika Beck, while Kiki Bertens came through a first-round match at the Ladies Championship Gstaad unscathed.

Suarez Navarro is seeded second in Romania and required under 54 minutes to move past Beck, racing to a 6-0 6-1 victory.

Beck finally got on the board after failing to hold serve five times in succession, ensuring she avoided a double-bagel before the Spaniard wrapped up the win with a break to love.

Ekaterina Alexandrova was the only other seed in action and she had to come from behind to defeat Barbora Krejcikova 4-6 6-0 6-2, while there were also wins for Cagla Buyukakcay, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Jaqueline Cristian and Nadia Podoroska.

3rd seed Simona Halep, the favourite to win the French Open, looked like a potential champion in Paris as she thrashed 21st seed Carla Suarez Navarro , 6-1, 6-1 to record her first victory over the Spaniard on clay, after losing the previous five encounters on the red dirt.

Bertens was not quite as dominant as Suarez Navarro in Switzerland, but a 6-3 6-1 triumph against Aleksandra Krunic ensured safe passage for the number two seed.

The Dutchwoman will face Anna Zaja in the second round after the qualifier surprised Patricia Maria Tig 6-2 6-3.

It was by no means routine for fourth seed Mona Barthel, though, as she was downed 4-6 6-3 6-3 by Maria Sakkari, although Carina Witthoft - seeded sixth - beat Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-3 7-6 (7-5).

Beyonce fans outraged over unrecognisable Madame Tussauds waxwork: 'Why is she white?' .
The latest Beyonce waxwork at Madame Tussauds has become a laughing stock on social media. The Formation singer appears to be unrecognisable in the new mould with many claiming her skin has been lightened so much that she resembles a "white woman". A photo of the Madame Tussauds figure began circulating on 19 July although it is not yet known in which of the museum's locations it stands. The wax version of Beyonce, 35, strikes one of the singer's fierce diva-like poses while wearing a shimmery purple blouse with matching hot pants and thigh-high boots. It is likely that the image was modelled on one of the stage costumes Beyonce wore on her Mrs Carter Show World Tour in 2013, with the singer's skintight purple leotard an iconic outfit from the performances. However, Beyonce's facial structure on the waxwork bears little similarity to the singer with her nose seemingly different and her skin tone much lighter. Ridiculing the waxwork on Instagram, one unimpressed user said: "Definitely a total fail!!, without knowing who is was meant to be initially I thought the person was a Caucasian woman.
