Newcastle set to make Townsend move Newcastle are set to make a fresh move for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend. According to the Croydon Advertiser, Newcastle are set to re-ignite their interest in the winger this summer. The Toon have been touted with a swoop for Townsend a number of times this year, with talk of a move to come ahead of next season. Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is said to be a fan of Townsend and is keen to reunite himself with the skilful Englishman. It has been just over a year since Townsend left Newcastle – to join Crystal Palace. Townsend quit Newcastle after their relegation from the Premier League last year and signed for Palace in a £13m deal. There is no mention of how much Newcastle would have to pay in order to get Townsend back. However, Palace are likely to want some profit on their original investment. Townsend made 13 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring four goals.

Frank De Boer wants Palace to sign Thomas Vermaelen

Frank De Boer wants Palace to sign Thomas Vermaelen New Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer is looking to make additions to his squad and, according to a report from Neil Moxley of the Mirror, he wants to sign Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen. The former Arsenal man has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp and having spent last season out on loan at Roma, he is expected to be sold this summer. The defender will be looking to go somewhere where he can play every week as he wants to ensure that he has a place in the Belgian national team at the World Cup in 2018. According to the report in the Mirror, Vermaelen’s representatives have indicated that their client is interested in a move back to the Premier League, with London his preferred destination. Any fee for Vermaelen would likely be minimal so he could prove to be a bargain if Palace can get a deal done.

Frank de Boer appears to be keen on lowering the average age of his Palace squad and the addition of Chambers would certainly help to achieve that.

However, it’s unlikely that the Eagles would be willing to part with £20m to land Chambers.
