  Lakers' Lonzo Ball to miss Summer League finale with calf strain The rookie sensation suffered the injury in the Lakers' semifinal win over the Mavericks on Sunday night.The Los Angeles rookie sensation will miss Monday's championship game against the Trail Blazers in Las Vegas with a mild calf strain in his right leg, the team announced.

Lakers summer league head coach Jud Buechler said he had “no idea” whether Ball would be able to play Monday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Lonzo noted his calf was still tight following the win, but hopes he’ll be able to help lead the Lakers in the final game of summer league .

Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball, who left Sunday's summer league semifinal win over the Mavericks with tightness in his right calf, hopes to play in Monday's championship in Las Vegas.

The No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft says he'll receive treatment leading up to the title game against the Trail Blazers, the Lakers' fifth game in six nights.

"This is the first time my calf got tight," Ball said after Sunday's game (via "Just being cautious. I wanted to get back out there, but the training staff is going to take care of me and I will be with them tonight and tomorrow and hope I can get back out there tomorrow."

LAS VEGAS — Lonzo Ball probably didn’t duck a rematch with De’Aaron Fox. The matchup — made famous during the NCAA Tournament as Fox dropped 39 and a win on Ball ’s UCLA squad — should have received a meaningless but new chapter during the Las Vegas Summer League .

As a precaution, the Lakers' medical staff sat Ball after he felt the problem with 6:26 to play in the third quarter, but the team reportedly was optimistic he'll be able to play Monday. However, it won't take unnecessary chances.

“It’s a tricky balance because I know he wants to play," Lakers summer league coach Jud Buechler said (via the L.A. Times). "But he is a major asset for us and we will let the medical staff and management decide if he can play and if he plays, how many minutes, we don’t know. But I know he wants to be out there.”

If Sunday's game was his last of the Las Vegas summer league, it was a good one. With Magic Johnson, GM Rob Pelinka and coach Luke Walton looking on, Ball was 5 for 7 from the floor (2 of 3 from 3-point range) for 16 points and had 10 assists by halftime in his much-anticipated matchup with Mavs rookie Dennis Smith Jr., who finished with 21 points and six assists.
