New MLS and Liga MX Tournament to be Announced

New MLS and Liga MX Tournament to be Announced After seemingly years of speculation and rumours about a new tournament between clubs from MLS and Liga MX, it appears one may finally be announced to begin play in 2018. According to Grant Wahl, the new tournament would potentially involve four clubs from each league similar to the North American SuperLiga that ran from 2007 to 2010. Earlier this year, it was reported Liga MX club owners could approve a new tournament with MLS with Mexican clubs no longer participating in Copa Libertadores. Atlas president Gustavo Guzman had this to say to ESPNFC in May: “It is already programmed. I don’t remember the date, [but] the teams that had won the right to go to the [last] Copa Libertadores will participate, and in the owners’ meeting there will be an outline for the tournament.” Guzman added that it was good news because the Liga MX clubs were invitees to Copa Libertadores “almost by obligation.” He also praised the development and growth of MLS and the potential for the neighboring leagues to begin a new tournament. It appears as all of this is becoming a reality with the tournament set to be announced shortly, along with another potential match between the MLS Cup champions and Liga MX champions.

West Ham are ready to offload striker Enner Valencia to Mexican side Tigres according to sources from ESPN.

Valencia is keen on leaving The Hammers in search of regular first-team football, with manager Slaven Bilic also happy for the striker to move on, in order to use the money generated to bring in new players.

Valencia, 27, spent last season on loan at Everton, but Ronald Koeman has decided against making the deal a permanent one. The Ecuador international only started five times in the Premier League for The Toffees and found the back of the net three times in 30 appearances during the season in all competitions.

The forward is very popular in Mexico, after impressing for Pachuca before moving to West Ham in 2014.

The opportunity to return to Central America makes Tigres an attractive proposition for the striker and one that could gather pace very quickly as a deal to offload Valencia edges closer with the Hammers eager to kickstart their summer spending.

West Ham reject bid for Valencia .
West Ham have rejected a bid from Tigres to sign Enner Valencia. According to a report from Sky Sports today, the Hammers have turned down the Mexican outfit’s first approach to sign the Ecuador international. It’s likely that Valencia will depart London this summer and seek pastures new but if Tigres are keen to offer him an escape route to Mexico, they will need to up their initial offer. Valencia spent the majority of last season on loan with Ronald Koeman’s Everton, where he showed glimpses of quality but yet again failed to convince. Ever since his move from Pachuca back in 2014, he has not really adapted to the Premier League’s demands, and the Hammers are looking poised to make a considerable loss from their £12.5m move for the striker. West Ham remain keen to offload Valencia this summer, with potential suitors circling, but they will let him go only if the right sum of money is coughed up.
