Great Britain's Alice Schlesinger came through the repechage to win bronze in the under-63kg at the European Championships in Warsaw.

The Israel-born judoka comfortably defeated home fighter Karolina Talach in her opening contest, but was then edged out in the Pool B final against German Martyna Trajdos.

Schlesinger, though, regrouped as she dropped into the second-chance repechage contest, beating Italian Edwige Gwend, the world number 15, on golden score to advance to a fight-off for bronze.

The 28-year-old Olympian was then handed a walkover when French opponent Clarisse Agbegnenou, a silver medallist from Rio last summer, was not able to take to the Tatami because of injury.

As a result, Schlesinger collected her fourth European Championship bronze, adding to those she won when competing for Israel.

Gold went to World and Olympic champion Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia, who successfully defended her European title with victory over Frenchwoman Margaux Pinot.

Elsewhere on Friday, St Helens judoka Amy Livesey lost her first-round contest to Belarus fighter Daniela Kazanoi.
