Arsenal reportedly enter talks with Schalke left-back

Arsenal reportedly enter talks with Schalke left-back Arsenal are reportedly moving closer to securing their first signing of the summer transfer window, with the Daily Mail claiming that they have opened talks with Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian international has been in good form this season in the Bundesliga, but his contract with Schalke expires in just a few months. This means that he’ll be available to join another team on a free transfer ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. Kolasinac has been linked with a number of big clubs in the last six months in light of his contract situation, but it looks as though Arsenal have moved ahead in the chase by entering talks with the left-back over a potential move. Nacho Monreal has failed to inspire at left-back this season, while Kieran Gibbs is clearly deemed only as a rotational option, so a move for the 23-year-old defender would make sense. Chelsea and Liverpool have both shown previous interest in Kolasinac.

Twitter: Told that Everton have joined the race to sign Kolasinac. His contract expires this summer. https://t.co/xyeECpJ6vf (@ChrisWheatley_) The Bosnian defender has impressed at left-back for Schalke. He’s made 89 appearances and is a regular starter for the German side. Kolasinac is also an international, having made 18 appearances for Bosnia & Herzegovina. Everton are lacking a quality left back, as Mason Holgate is still adjusting to the Premier League and Leighton Baines is not the England quality left-back he used to be. As well as left-back, Kolasinac can also play at centre-back and defensive midfield, so his versatility can really come in handy for the Toffees. His contract expires at the end of the season and Everton will try and acquire the Bosnian on a free transfer but face competition from some of Europe’s biggest sides.

The left-back, who joined Schalke from Stuttgart in 2011,  has made 20 Bundesliga appearances for the Royal Blues this season, scoring three goals.

Arsenal faced competition to sign the 23-year-old, with a number of European super clubs such as Chelsea, AC Milan, Manchester City, Juventus and Everton all expressing interest in the full-back.
