Force India boss Vijay Mallya has been arrested today in connection with charges of fraud and conspiracy in his native India . Mallya has long been sought by Indian authorities in connection with dealings regarding his now closed Kingfisher Airlines business

Force India team principal and co-owner Vijay Mallya has been arrested in the UK following an extradition warrant from Indian authorities. "Vijay Mallya , 61 (18/12/1955), was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud."

Force India team boss Vijay Mallya has been arrested in London, the Metropolitan Police revealed on Tuesday.

Mallya, who is also former director of IPL outfit Royal Challengers Bangalore, was arrested by the force's Extradition Unit "on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud".

The charges are reported to relate to the collapse of Mallya's defunct Kingfisher Airlines.

"Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Extradition Unit have this morning, Tuesday 18 April arrested a man on an extradition warrant," read the police statement.

Indian media are reporting that Force India F1 boss (and India ’s representative on the FIA World Motor Sport Council) Vijay Mallya was arrested this morning in England and will soon appear in Westminster Magistrates’ court.

"Vijay Mallya, 61, was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud.

"He was arrested after attending a central London police station, and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today, 18 April."

Mallya later tweeted: "Usual Indian media hype. Extradition hearing in Court started today as expected."

Mallya, whose Indian passport was revoked last year,  has previously claimed he has "nothing to hide".

A man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a burglary in the early hours of this morning. The robbery happened at a retail premises in Stepaside, Dublin.Gardai were called to the scene at around 2.30am and found that money and some stock had been taken.Two men were seen leaving the scene in a silver car that had previously been reported stolen.At around 3.30am Garda arrested a man (early 20s) in the St Patrick's Crescent area of Dun Laoghaire, who was seen running from a car matching the description of the vehicle involved.
