Former Olympic bronze medallist Sam Oldham will lead an inexperienced British men's team at the European Gymnastics Championships in Cluj next week.

Oldham is joined by newly-crowned British all-around champion Joe Fraser plus Frank Baines, Courtney Tulloch and Dom Cunningham in the five-man squad for the event.

Rio medallists Max Whitlock and Louis Smith are taking time off from competition while fellow Rio team member Brinn Bevan is struggling for form.

British Gymnastics head coach Eddie Van Hoof said: "As the first European Championship of the new Olympic cycle this competition gives the unknown a chance to become known.

"Our British team members are relatively young and inexperienced in such events and this affords them the exposure to compete against Europe's best and measure their progress. There are a number of medal opportunities for the taking."

The women's team, which is expected to include Claudia Fragapane and Rio bronze medallist Amy Tinkler, is due to be announced on Wednesday.
