Roy Hodgson admits blame for Wilfried Zaha turning his back on England

Roy Hodgson admits blame for Wilfried Zaha turning his back on England Wilfried Zaha opted to play for his birth country, Ivory Coast, two years ago after making only two England appearances since 2012. The winger has been Palace’s star man this season, netting seven goals and providing two assists in a severely underperforming team. With the the World Cup rapidly approaching, Zaha’s form in the league has produced more and more anguish over him no longer being viable for the Three Lions. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Hodgson admits that a lack of opportunities in the England team swayed Zaha, not a burning desire to play for his birth country. “To be honest he’d have been more than happy to play for England. I think he was just seduced by the Ivory Coast and part of the seduction was ‘you won’t play a lot of games for England, so sign for us instead’. But there are moments in time for footballers. Let’s be fair. At the moment, this season, Wilf has been in superb form. But there were years before, especially the United years, where perhaps he wasn’t the Wilf Zaha you see today.
