Disney is gearing up for the summer premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film is set to take fans through another adventure as Johnny Depp's iconic character Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner's son Henry fight the ghostly Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem).

Maleficent actor Brenton Thwaites joins the blockbuster franchise for its fifth sequel and admits he was 'terrified' to share screen time with legendary Hollywood actor Depp.

On his first day of shooting with the 53-year-old actor, he told Entertainment Weekly: "I just remember being absolutely terrified like I'd never acted in my life before doing this scene. I just remember thinking, 'How am I going to stand there and talk to Johnny Depp for three minutes, opposite a character that I'd grown up with in my teenage years? It's not going to be possible."

In the upcoming film, Captain Salazer escapes from Devils Triangle with an aim to kill Sparrow. Jack, who is down on his luck, must forge an alliance with Henry to find the legendary Trident of Poseidon in order to reverse his death.

Thwaites, 27, recalls his first scene with Depp and dishes on his character's struggle to convince Sparrow to help him find the trident. "My first scene with [Johnny], if I'm remembering correctly, was the scene where Henry is trying to convince Jack Sparrow to team up with him and find this ancient treasure that could one, help Henry, and two, ultimately save Jack – so, a lot of things going on," he added.

Asides from Orlando Bloom's Will Turner, the film brings back old favourites such as Keira Knightley who returns to the franchise as Elizabeth Swann. Despite fourth sequel On Stranger Tides being trashed by critics, for its alleged lack of creativity, directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg were determined to re-energise the classic oceanic adventure.

Thwaites weighs in and praises Dead Men Tell No Tales as a "mix of darkness, adventure, love, and swashbuckling were something that none of us had really seen on the screen before".

"It was so fresh and exciting and it was the goal for number five to bring all those elements back to the screen, all those ingredients that made such a tasteful cocktail in the first one," the Australian-born actor added.

The fifth sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean will hit theatres on 26 May 2017.
