Star Wars The Last Jedi trailer: Luke Skywalker is right, time for the Jedi to end

Star Wars The Last Jedi trailer: Luke Skywalker is right, time for the Jedi to end As expected, Lucasfilm released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Good Friday following a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando with writer-director Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Mark Hamill. The trailer, embedded above, will be inescapable this Easter weekend as the enormous Star Wars hype machine kicks into gear for another year, hurtling towards The Last Jedi's release on 15 December. Prior to the trailer's release fans had been wondering what the film's title means, who it refers to, and also how the 30 years between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens have been treating Hamill's Luke Skywalker. In the trailer Skywalker talks to Ridley's Rey, training her but also offering a belief that will shock both her and fans of the series. "Breathe just breathe. Now, reach out. What do you see?" Luke asks. "I only know one truth," Skywalker says at the trailer's conclusion. "It's time for the Jedi to end." Luke is troubled by all that's happened to him. He may have been all smiles at the end of Return of the Jedi but over the course of that original trilogy his aunt and uncle were killed, his mentor Obi-Wan was killed, he learned that his father was the evil Darth Vader and in the end, he caved into anger and hatred, lashing out at Vader and taking him halfway to his eventual death.

Over on Twitter, Star Wars News Net got fans buzzing over a simple post not long ago. The site shared a message which wrote, “The Last Jedi trailer that will debut at [ Star Wars Celebration Orlando] will definitely have the ‘full trailer ’ feel, no just a brief teaser.”

Disney and Lucasfilm has been very secretive about the movie's plot and all we know is the movie will further adventures of Luke Skywalker, Leia and Rey. Previously, Writer/Director Rian Johnson dished to USA Today that film will pick up from where The Force Awakens left off.

Johnson told the outlet, "I don't want to skip ahead two years. I want to see the very next moment of what happens." Rey and Luke's relationship will be the highlight in Episode VIII. Johnson has admitted "a large part of the movie" will be spent addressing why Luke is there and what he'll do next.

Like Skywalker, Rey has been pulled into a bigger world by connecting with the Force, "but part of what's she's dealing with is the realization that she has this power and this gift," Johnson said and added, "She's taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential."

Star Wars 8 currently slated to reach both US and UK cinemas on 15 December 2017.
