Volvo Vows End of Combustion Cars With New Electric Push Volvo is phasing out cars that rely on combustion engines, with every new model launched from 2019 to have an electric motor.Promising the “historic end” of cars that only have combustion engines, Volvo Car Group will introduce five electric models by 2021 and offer hybrid options across its product line, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Bentley will take its first step towards electrification in 2018 with a plug-in hybrid version of its Bentayga, and our spy photographers have snapped the electrified luxury off-roader undergoing assessment by engineers.

Lining up alongside the 600bhp petrol powered 6.0-litre W12 model and the newer V8 diesel, it’ll add a third powertrain choice to the Bentayga’s line-up, and fire the starting pistol on Bentley’s electrification strategy. Eventually, it will donate its powertrain to the Mulsanne, Flying Spur and the next-generation Continental GT.

The 2018 Bentley Bentayga SUV is their answer. The car was recently spotted in the spy photographs which confirmed that the company is indeed testing their next plug - in hybrid in a committed manner.

While on the surface the car spied here looks just like any other Bentayga, one small design detail marks it out as a hybrid model – the additional fuel cap on the left rear wing most likely hides a charging socket.

A DVLA search of the licence plate spells things out clearly though – it’s registered as a hybrid electric, using an engine 2,995cc in displacemen

As such, the Bentayga hybrid here is likely running the same six-cylinder powertrain found in the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. However, given a brand new version of Porsche’s flagship SUV is just around the corner, it’ll be a mildly revised hybrid system and petrol engine, while unique specification and power for Bentley’s Bentayga cannot be ruled out.

The upcoming Bentley Bentayga plug - in hybrid has been spied during hot weather testing in southern Europe. There’s not much to distinguish this Bentayga prototype from the W12 and V8 diesel variants currently on sale.

The Bentayga is not only Bentley ’s first production model to run on diesel, but it will also be the first partially electrified. It will happen in 2018 when the folks from Crewe will introduce this, the Bentayga plug - in hybrid . Spied undergoing testing in Spain

Supercar extravaganza: the best mid-engined sports cars: The most exotic engine layout in the motoring world is undoubtedly the mid-engined configuration. You are most likely to find it in purpose built sportscars where the restrictions on interior space and visibility are less of a concern than they would be in your daily driver. Some designs do feature limited storage space in the front boot and behind the engine compartment but the focus is all on the performance.Placing the engine in the middle of a car lowers its centre of gravity, aiding handling balance and traction to the rear wheels, the limited rear visibility is not an issue when you are the one doing the overtaking. However, the higher cornering forces generated and central weight distribution can make a mid-engine layout behave unpredictably when pushed to its limits.Whereas a front-engined car tends to slide out more gradually, you have to be quick to catch a mid-engined car if it suddenly loses traction. Modern day electronic aids can help quell undesirable handling characteristics but a skilled driver is still required to get the best out of them. Some manufacturers major on this layout producing little else, while others enter the fray every few years with a limited edition run of an exotic thoroughbred. We take a look at some of the biggest manufacturers and their best mid-engined layouts over the years… Supercar extravaganza: the best mid-engined sports cars
