Volvo Is Going Electric: Does that Mean Its Cars Will Cost More?

Volvo Is Going Electric: Does that Mean Its Cars Will Cost More? Volvo is committing itself to an ambitious plan to overhaul the way it powers its cars by introducing only fully electric or hybrid-powered vehicles, beginning in 2019. While Volvo hybrids now are significantly more expensive than their traditional counterparts, the automaker said it can change that, though not for some time.  “We believe that enhancing our cars with electrification will make them more desirable,” Volvo spokesman Russell Datz said Wednesday.

The Volvo XC 60 is baby brother to the XC90 and borrows much of that car’s mechanical Volvo launches 415 bhp Polestar upgrade for XC 60 . Ducati V4 Exposed. 2019 Mercedes-AMG A45 to head new A-Class line-up.

Volvo launches 415 bhp Polestar upgrade for XC 60 . The performance specs for the M40i were also revealed – it gets a 3.0-litre straight-six with 355bhp and 500Nm of torque. Top speed is 155mph and 0-62mph takes 4.8 seconds.

Torque delivery in the mid-range is also improved, according to Volvo.

The standard T8 plug-in offers 401bhp and manages 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds, so the Polestar revisions are likely to see that reduced to or just below the five-second mark. Volvo says it is still capable of 134mpg, and manages 28 miles on electric power only.

”Our goal is to create usable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience,” said Polestar's Henrik Fries.

“The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain. With the Polestar optimisation, it makes the new Volvo XC60 a true drivers’ car.”

The Polestar pack is also available on the petrol T6 model, plus the D5 and D4 diesels, although we only know the output of the T8 Twin Engine so far.
