"The Audi R 8 Spyder V 10 plus completes the R 8 model line," said Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. "The Spyder is now also available as a 610 hp top version in addition to the Coupé.

Compared with the Audi R 8 Spyder V 10 (combined fuel consumption in l/100 km: 11.7 [20.1 mpg] combined CO2 emissions in g/km: 277 [445.8 g/mi]), the naturally aspirated 5.2 FSI engine, with a high 12.7:1 Apple CEO confirms company is developing autonomous technologies for vehicles.

While it doesn’t look dramatically different, aficionados will be able to tell the Plus version is special thanks to its new grille with honeycomb mesh and a healthy smattering of carbon fibre parts. The front spoiler, side air intakes, door sills, rear diffuser and boot spoiler will all be constructed from the lightweight material derived from motorsport and help produce up to 100kg of downforce.

The side sills and spoiler can be left bare, or painted the same colour as the car for no extra cost.

An optional ‘micrommata green design package’ sees the bodywork painted bright green, while the grille is finished in contrasting Anthracite Grey and black Nappa leather upholstery, armrests, doors and floor mats get luminous green stitching.

Get close to the back of the Audi R8 V10 Spyder Plus and you’ll also see its gloss black trapezoidal exhausts. Unlike the Ferrari 488 Spider, the Audi uses a fabric soft top which can open or close in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. There’s even a wind deflector to stop the driver and passenger getting too ruffled with the roof down.

While it’s unlikely to be of great concern amongst the prospective audience, fuel consumption is pegged at 22.6mpg - the same figure as the Huracan Spyder - while CO2 emissions are 292g/km. Thanks to its smaller, turbocharged engine, the Ferrari 488 Spider is the economy hero, boasting figures of 24.7mpg and 260g/km.

Being a flagship Audi, technology is also comprehensive, with a 12.3-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital dashboard dominating proceedings inside. This takes care of everything from the infotainment system to the sat-nav, and the system has been designed so the driver can operate all major controls without taking their hands off the steering wheel.

The order books are open immediately and the first cars are expected with customers towards the end of summer this year. While no official price has been announced for UK cars, a starting price of around £185,000 looks likely given its price in Euros.

Naby Keita wants to leave RB Leipzig .
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed huge encouragement in his pursuit of key summer transfer target Naby Keïta from RB Leipzig, according to German journalist Rafa Honigstein. Keita, 22, has three years left on his current deal with the Bundesliga side and has reportedly refused to sign a new deal with the German club, stating his desire to leave this summer. Twitter: Before this all gets too messy. 1) I have been told that Keita wants to go. 2) I believe RBL’s €80m or nothing stance is genuine. (@honigstein) Leipzig’s Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick has publicly admitted that Keïta isn’t for sale, however, Leipzig are believed to be demanding £70million for Keïta, who joined for around £10m last year. The Guinea international, who applies his trade as a box to box midfielder, made a huge impression in his debut season in Germany’s top division, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists, helping Leipzig to a second place finish and securing Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history. Liverpool were apparently looking to pay around £50million for the midfielder but with Leipzig seemingly holding all of the aces, they will need to stump up the cash if they want to get him to Anfield.
