China's real racing sees F1's best rise to the top

China's real racing sees F1's best rise to the top If Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix taught us anything it’s that talent will shine in Formula 1 in 2017. Shanghai’s swoops did produce better action than in Melbourne two weeks before, not only that but, at one of the most DRS-dependent circuits of the year traditionally, that action felt real and not manipulated in any way. DRS did help but didn’t dictate down the one-kilometre back straight and, in fact, the secondary passing zone into Turn 6 was the busier of the two hairpins. It’s clear the drivers are still adapting to the 2017-style of racing, though it does bare much resemblance to that seen a decade ago. You can still feel the desire to save tyres and when attacking some are just waiting for the DRS, expecting it to do all the work. China also wasn’t a totally normal race, due to the damp start and most trying to complete all their pit-stops during the early periods under a full course yellow. It was Max Verstappen’s lock-up, with Sebastian Vettel closing in, that changed all that, as his pace was such on fresh tyres that he would have probably overtaken everybody had they not all pitted again. That’s another aspect of the races that hasn’t fully adapted to the new cars yet. There is still the trend of setting strategy in a way that gets the best result in the slowest time, rather than perhaps doing something different and being aggressive. That final point, however, is where the main conclusion from the race comes from.

Will it help clear the UK ' s congested motorways , or turn us into a nation of Sunday drivers? In the UK too many people hog the outside and middle lanes, leaving the slow lane empty which is stupid; drivers don't want to get blocked in.

The M606 has been identified as the slowest motorway in the United Kingdom . Through the use of tracking software in commercial vehicles, the average speed limits across the UK were captured from the 1st of January to the 30th of June this year.

The UK’s slowest motorway has been officially named, with the M25 circling London clocking a miserable average speed of just 25.05 miles per hour last year.

The M4 between London and South Wales was found to be the second slowest stretch of motorway in the UK with drivers reaching just 30.46 mph on average, according to the figures by vehicle tracking company Satrak. Analysing data from 527,000 cars for over a year, the firm also found that the average speed on the 10 slowest motorways in the UK was a measly 41.17mph.

While London and its surrounding boroughs are the usual suspects for congestion, three of the top five most congested motorways were located further north. Drivers on the M606 in West Yorkshire averaged just 40.68mph over the year, while those driving near Leeds on the M621 reached just 42.32mph on average.

Aside from the slowest motorways , the data was also able to show which cities suffered from slowest speeds. Analysing the average speeds of vehicles within cities over the same period of time, it was found that Cambridge is in fact the slowest city in the UK with average speeds of only 13mph

A vehicle tracking company has found the slowest motorway in the UK is the M606 in West Yorkshire – where drivers manage an average speed Behind the M606, the M32 motorway in Bristol – which is set to have a 40mph speed limit introduced along a section of it next year – averaged just 26.15mph.

Further up, the M73 between Glasgow and North Lanarkshire was found to be the slowest motorway in Scotland, and the fifth slowest in the UK, with an average speed of 43.71mph.

Surprisingly, the report also concluded that Cambridge, not London, has the slowest city traffic in the UK with drivers in the old university city reaching an average speed of just 13.73mph.

In fact, the capital was ranked third in the UK, behind Hereford (14.09mph). Drivers in London were found to reach an average speed of 14.59mph. None of the top 10 slowest cities had average speeds exceeding 20mph. Oxford was the 10th slowest city in the UK with an average speed of 16.49mph.

Dan Walton, managing director at Satrak Vehicle Tracking, said: “It’s little surprise to find that the M25 is in fact the slowest motorway. We undertake work throughout the country and usually find the M25 to be the most cumbersome, and our data provides evidence for that. I’ve heard of tailbacks stretching 12 miles in my time there so it’s of little surprise to me.”
