This is the new Volkswagen T - Roc SUV , hardly disguised in our latest spy pictures. These images give us our best look yet at the new Golf-sized SUV that invades the empty space left by the second-generation Tiguan's push upmarket.

Prototype ahoy! This is the new Volkswagen T-Roc SUV, hardly disguised in our latest spy pictures. These images give us our best look yet at the new Golf-sized SUV that’s a little smaller than a Tiguan.

As you can see from the pictures, the front-end design has hints of the Volkswagen family, but is it just us that can spot essences of Ford Edge in that grille? Running along the side, references to what will be the T-Roc’s sister car – the Audi Q2 – are pretty clear; the rear haunches and C-pillar don’t stray too far from the VW’s Ingolstadt sibling. The rear end has a similar profile to the Q2, too.

Apple receives permit in California to test self-driving cars - DMV

Apple receives permit in California to test self-driving cars - DMV Apple Inc (AAPL.O) has secured a permit to test autonomous vehicles in California, the state Department of Motor Vehicles said on Friday. Apple joins a growing list of traditional carmakers, technology companies, and small start ups to test drive cars in California - all vying to be the first to bring self-driving cars to the masses.Companies that have been issued permits also include Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google unit, Ford Motor Co (F.N), Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE), Daimler AG (DAIGn.DE), Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA.O) and General Motors Co (GM.N).

Although it just released the T - Roc this year, Volkswagen is already working on the T-Cross, another, even smaller sub-compact SUV based on the Polo and here’s our best look yet at the car testing in Finland.

Please note: Volkswagen uses cookies to improve your experience on our website. These cookies provide a better performance If you are looking for expressive design, countless customisation options and high-quality finishes right down to the last detail then the T - Roc is sure to impress.

If the T-Roc were to share more than just a body shape with the Q2, you can expect to see 1.0- and 1.4-litre TSI petrol engines and 1.6- and 2.0-litre diesels. Along the same lines, most T-Roc models will most certainly be front-wheel-drive only, other than the top-spec diesel offering, and expect both manual and DSG automatic gearboxes in the range.

The original T-Roc concept broke cover at the 2014 Geneva motor show, and Volkswagen said back then that it was a 'Golf-format concept car' and a step down from the Tiguan in terms of size. The concept car was also based on the MQB platform – the platform used by Volkswagen Group on everything from the SEAT Ibiza to the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Kodiaq.

What’s the story on Volkswagen’s SUV future?

When Volkswagen showed off the T-Roc concept back in 2014, the brand confirmed three more SUV models would be joining the Tiguan and Touareg in its range. A B-segment SUV to rival cars like the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008 is almost a certainty.

While the Tiguan and Atlas look pretty similar, but in different sizes, it looks like the T - Roc will have a more edgy design while still looking like a Volkswagen . The new teaser is only 22-seconds long and doesn’t give us a good look at the whole T - Roc

A two-door convertible version could also be on the way; a model first previewed by the T-Cross Breeze concept at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

McLaren Junior Norris dominates F3 testing at Monza .
European Formula 3 rookie Lando Norris topped the timesheets for Carlin in both testing sessions at Monza. Changeable conditions didn’t prevent the Brit from going fastest with a best time of a 1m58.828s in the afternoon session, two-tenths ahead of Hitech’s Tadasuke Makino. Norris’ Volkswagen powered F3 car was also fastest in the first session of the day at a soaked Monza, once again ahead of Japanese driver Makino. The Prema cars of Maximilian Günther and Callum Ilott finished the day third and fourth respectively, over six tenths adrift of Norris. Carlin driver Jake Dennis made it three Brits in the top five with a best lap time of a 1m59.553s just half a tenth ahead of sixth-placed Hitech runner Ralf Aron. Championship leader Joel Eriksson finished the day 1.8 seconds off the pace and down in 16th position, but had previously put his Motopark car fourth in the morning’s wet session. Mick Schumacher also struggled during the test, as he ended the day in 17th position, just ahead of Van Amerstorf Racing’s Harrison Newey. Motopark driver Keyvan Andres Soori finished the test at the bottom of the timing sheets with a 2m02.262s being his best lap time. Both Lando Norris and Tadasuke Makino will be hoping they can replicate the strong pace shown in today’s Monza test when they return to the track for Round 2 of the European F3 season on April 28.
