Research has proven the tentacles of a crocheted octopus remind babies of the umbilical cord and being in their mother’s womb, making them feel safe. And now to mark World Prematurity Day, Poole Hospital is appealing for people to crochet so every premature baby can enjoy the benefits.

As local paper the Bournemouth Echo reports, the crafty creatures will now be offered to all infants in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) – and the reason is as scientific as it is sweet...

Research has shown that crocheted tentacles remind little ones of their umbilical cords and being inside their mother's womb, which in turn helps them feel safe. Aww.

So far, premature twins Jasmine and Amber Smith, who were born three months early have benefited from the comfort of crochet octopuses. Their mother, Kat, told the Bournemouth Echo:

This Mom Gave Birth to 4 Babies in 11 Months and No, They're Not Quadruplets

This Mom Gave Birth to 4 Babies in 11 Months and No, They're Not Quadruplets A woman in Wales got pregnant just one week after giving birth. The second pregnancy came with a big surprise. After welcoming her daughter in February 2015, Becky Johns and her partner, Jason, discussed having more children close in age to Mya - really close. The couple started trying for another baby right away and Becky got pregnant just a week after having Mya, but that's not even the most shocking part of the story.

A crocheted octopus can also be baby ´s first toy to hold and to play with. It´a known fact that babies like to grab or hold little things in their hands. 'One of the nurses brought in the octopus and explained about the idea. The girls absolutely love them. When they are asleep they hold onto the tentacles tightly. Normally they would be in the womb and would play with the umbilical cord so the octopuses make them feel grounded and safe. They really are beautiful.'

The babies were also less likely to pull on their monitors and tubes.

Daniel Lockyer, neonatal services matron, told Prima.co.uk: 'When we heard about the difference cuddly octopi can make to tiny babies we were impressed and, after research, eager to introduce them to our little patients. It's incredible that something so simple can comfort a baby and help them feel better.'

The hospital now hopes to receive enough octopuses so that every baby in the unit will have one to cuddle and take home with them. And that's where YOU come in...

Put your crafting skills to good use for this brilliant cause by picking up your knitting needles now to create octopuses of any size or colour. You can find the pattern here.

Best home remedies to prevent premature greying of hair! .
You are in your mid 20s, but you already have white hair- then it can be a premature greying. Greying of hair is a great concern for younger adults nowadays, especially women. Having grey or white hair can be embarrassing as it makes you look much older than you are. There are many factors that affect greying- genetic, fluctuations, smoking, pollution, stress, etc. The absence of the “melanin” (the pigment that gives hair its natural colour) in the hair causes grey hair. As you age, the melanocyte activity slows down and the body gradually stops producing melanin. Chemicals found in hair products are harmful for hair in the long run.
